I knew how I wanted to quilt the linen, but I struggled with how to quilt the prints. Thanks to Instagram, I had several suggestions within just a few hours. I went with arcs between points on the triangles. Despite the fact that my quilting is no where near perfect, I'm very glad I went with custom designs rather than my standard all-over loopy pattern. The texture of the quilting really adds to the quilt. I almost don't want to wash this quilt because I know so much of the quilting will disappear with the crinkly-ness that results.
The back is simply pieced with my leftovers.
Quilt stats:
Size: 56" x 72"
Fabrics: Chicopee by Denyse Schmidt and Essex Linen in Natural
Block: 8" Kaleidoscope cut using the Kaleidoscope Triangle Ruler by Marti Michell
Thanks for stopping by!
This is so gorgeous! Love how you quilted it and that backing is wonderful too. Really really great!
ReplyDeleteStunning! Another fabulous finish!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is very very lovely, and your thoughtful use of quilting really enhances the piecing. The quilting also looks fantastic on the back - what a great secondary pattern!
ReplyDeleteSo great, Katie!
ReplyDeleteYou've inspired me to try different kinds of free motion in different sections of a quilt now, I usually stick to an all-over pattern. It looks so great, and I love the back. I'm usually stumped with what to do there since I often balk at buying all one fabric for backing, it seems so spendy (Silly, I know) and don't usually like very improv looking pieced ones. Yours is orderly and doable, and of course matches so well!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is just amazing, beautiful, awesome! Love the fabrics, especially the pairing of chicopee and linen!! The quilting works wonderfully with the fabrics and design. Totally want one of my own now!
ReplyDeleteIt's just perfect.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, Kati! Love the quilting.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Love the fabrics...colors...and the quilting!!
ReplyDeleteLove it, and the quilting looks great! I've been 'confused' too why the wrinkly look is so desired--I love a clean look--and I think I'd prewash my fabrics before just to avoid the wrinkly look. Would that be considered taboo? ;)
ReplyDeleteyum!! This quilt is fabuolous. Chicopee is such a busy collection of prints that it can be a little oerwhelming, but the grey is really lovely with it. Your quilting is perfect. As you said, some of that will disappear when you wash it, but you'll still see it on the back. I have to admit, that's my favourite thing - when on the front, the quilting disapears and you just see the lovely fabrics, but on the back you see a whole new quilt, simply throguh the quilting.
ReplyDeleteFabulous finish, Kati!
E xx

ReplyDeleteHello! Your quilt is such a great example of using value in quilts. Could I have your permission to use it as an example for an upcoming presentation I am putting together for Portland Modern Quilt Guild? All the Best!
ReplyDeleteI continue to return to your Chicopee Kaleidoscope as motivation to start mine. I am going to use the Smart-Plate Kaleidoscope ruler which works with 4 HSTs as the Kaleidoscope. Your Chicopee Kaleidoscope is fab. Thank you so much for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteHi Katie, This is a gorgeous quilt and has inspired me to make one of my own. I'm curious how much fabric of each print you needed. Did you start out with more than a fat quarter of each print? Thanks so much for your input!
ReplyDeleteI too am reading the comments to see if I could find how much fabric your quilt used! Thanks for any input!
