Remember this stack of fabrics:
That stack now looks like this:
Despite the fact that that I canceled this quilt along a few weeks ago, I've decided it would be a really fun project and am planning to go for it. Since it's my blog, I get to change my mind. I did make the decision to cancel it the evening of my very bad day. Life is a bit better this week. I also wanted to complete my quilt top before starting the quilt along. I had to make sure everything worked out before I started leading you through it.
Here's the deal. This quilt along will be for a quilt 64" by 84". This is a perfect size for a twin quilt or a nice big throw. The design calls for a main color and four coordinating colors for the stripes. You can easily tweak the pattern to use only one or two coordinating colors. If you have been thinking about giving diamonds a try, this quilt is a great place to start. The majority of the quilt is strip-pieced and comes together quite quickly.
The fabric requirements:
- 2/3 yard each of four different coordinating colors for the stripes (I used blue, green, yellow and orange). You need exactly 24". You might want to order 7/8 yard just in case.
- 3 1/8 yards of your main background color
- 2/3 yard for the binding
- Approximately 5 yards for the backing
To celebrate my first quilt along, Brenda from Pink Castle Fabrics if offering a 15% discount off anything in her shop for the next couple weeks. She has a fun selection of bright solids that would be great for an argyle quilt. Just enter the code argyle and she will get you squared away!
The first official quilt along post is scheduled for Monday, October 3. Start thinking of your favorite color combo and get that fabric ordered! Thanks for sticking around.

Oh, Kati, this quilt is awesome! I need another project like, well, a hole in the head, but this one is calling my name...
ReplyDeletelol at "the one where I change my mind". You are definitely entitled to change your mind! I might be in (probably for a smaller version) on this one. I'm a sucker for diamonds!
ReplyDeleteSo very very tempting Kati... I think I'll need to just follow it and enjoy reading about it for a while and fingers crossed I'll be able to have a go later on.
ReplyDeleteYippee!! I have been looking for a quilt idea to make as a Christmas gift, and I think this is the ticket! I will most definitely be quilting along :-)
ReplyDeleteI am in, although I may not be able to keep the same pace. That is an awesome quilt!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDo you think if I made it smaller, I could get away with half-yard cuts? I've got a bunch of nearly-solid fall fabrics that desperately need a quilt, but all in half-yards... I also have a diamond ruler that is begging for a project!! I guess I could just cut and see what size I get!
ReplyDeleteHmm, living so close to Argyll and Bute I probably ought to play along, but alas, too many comitments, too little time right now! I will, however, pin it for a less busy time :o)
ReplyDeleteMy MQG is late in getting into the monochromatic challenge, so I think this will be a fun one to incorporate a monochromatic color scheme with. I got my thread today in the mail- thanks once again! We are heading down to Zion Natl. Park and I plan to bring it along to do some projects with :D
ReplyDeleteI love this! My brother asked for a quilt and argyle is right up his alley. Looking forward to this, whether I do it "along" or later....THANK YOU!!
ReplyDeleteI love your argyle!! I can't think about anything past the Summit right now...so hopefully, I'll be able to join up after that. Too cool.
ReplyDeleteSoooo tempting!! I may join... I do get paid on Friday...
ReplyDeleteI may join if I can rifle through the stash and find something I already own that will work. I'm a sucker for tartan and argyle .... and it'd be awesome to have a quilt that would match my kilt .... (yes, my kilt, I'm a highland dancer...)
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this post? Off to have a look round Pink Chalk fabrics!
