In effort to come up with a great Christmas gift idea, I created this table runner/wall hanging. It became a wall hanging when I decided it was definitely not the right design for the recipient, and when I remembered that table runners last exactly .2 seconds on my table. I got my design idea from this fabulous wood art.
Because this was supposed to be a Christmas table runner, I decided on this fun print from the holiday line of Kumari Garden for the backing and pulled my solid colors from that print. The end result isn't exactly Christmas-y, but I do love all these colors together.
I cut my strips into various widths from .75" to 2".
I simply started chopping, arranging and sewing.
I just had to take a picture in front of the window to get that stained glass effect.
It currently hangs in my kitchen. I'm not sure how long it will last there. I'd really prefer it as a table runner...maybe someday when the mini-destroyers won't whip it off every three seconds.
The finished size is about 17" x 40". Rather than batting, I fused medium weight interfacing to both the front and back. I quilted in the ditch at random intervals just to keep everything together.
