- The twins unrolled an entire roll of toilet paper.
- Miss C found the mousse and made a beehive on top of her head.
- She also pumped her doll's hair full of hairspray.
- Someone dumped Cheerios all over the living room carpet and proceeded to smash them in.
- Miss C threw a horrible tantrum because I informed her we were not going to the grocery store.
- She then decided it was a good idea to sneak a container of yogurt into her room and everyone proceeded to paint themselves, the carpet, the walls and all the toys with it.
- The twins unloaded all the clothes they could reach from their closet.
- Miss C scaled the twin's dresser and started applying the lotion she found all over herself.
- Miss C and Miss A unloaded a full box of baby wipes.
I've decided they coordinate their efforts to destroy our house and make me as frazzled as possible. Little Dude says to Miss C, "Okay, I'll distract her while you snatch the yogurt, and we'll all meet back in five minutes." Such is my life with three mini-destroyers.
Now onto sewing. I haven't played along with Lee's WIP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced for a while. I just haven't had many works in progress to show. After finishing my quilt for Lynne's quilt along, I didn't have any quilts in progress. I started sewing these HSTs months ago but shelved them to work on other projects. I decided to pull them out again this week, although I've realized I'm so sick of HSTs. I only had about 150 blocks pressed and trimmed. I've sewn and pressed about 250 since I pulled it out again, but still have lots of squaring up to do.
One of the reasons this project got shelved in the first place was my indecisiveness. I just couldn't decide how I wanted to arranged all these squares once I finished sewing them. Enter Lynne again. She showed a great HST design on her blog a while ago, and I thought it would be perfect for my HSTs. I plan to make my quilt 4x4 blocks. Each block is 18" finished.
I finished up my first block this afternoon, pressed it, took a picture and thought it looked great until I was cropping the picture to post. Notice anything wrong?
Luckily it was just the corner so it was easy to fix. I actually switched out the the whole square because I didn't want the corners to match which I also realized after it was sewn.
Only 15 blocks to go.
My jaw *literally* dropped open upon reading about your morning. You definitely need some sewing therapy. Lots of it. I like the looks of those HSTs.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried Thangles? They work really well for keeping the HST square - square enough that I didn't need to trim them.
That is an amazing story... I wish it was in a mommy of twins book instead of your real life! That's insanity!!!
ReplyDeleteYour WIP however is lovely! HUGS!
VERY PRETTY!
ReplyDeleteI'm with felicity about my jaw dropping at your morning account - SO remember those days & how exhausting they were! Amazing you get a thing done! But your block - absolutely gorgeous! I don't love HST either, but DO love how they look!
ReplyDeletePretty Pretty!
ReplyDeleteand let me guess, your kiddos did all the destruction this morning while you were either, going to the bathroom, starting a load of laundry, or cleaning the kitchen or bathroom? Am I right?? Never fails when you try to be productive (other than sewing) this is what happens! Joys of Motherhood, right!?
Whew. I am SO sorry about your morning! I'm glad you got some sewing time later. The block is beautiful - you are really ambitious to do such a big quilt out of teeny HSTs like that!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday. Hope tomorrow is better. : )
Congrats on making it through *that* morning. wow! Your block looks beautiful and I'm loving the colors!
ReplyDeleteAll of that happened this morning???
ReplyDeleteWhat a day!
On a positive note, I love your block. Perfect colors for spring!
glad you got some sewing in today, you certainly deserved it! and then some!!
ReplyDeleteYour block is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how fast they can make an absolute mess? I'm sure I'll miss those days... eventually. While I'm sweeping for the fourth time today? Not so much. Darn those cherrios!
Oh, you have had a hard day. I think it is time to go out for a few hours when the husband gets home.
ReplyDeleteI to get tired of HST very fast. I want to make a whole quilt out of them, but I am already tired of trimming up the 16 I needed for a bee block. Maybe it could be a slow and steady, over the years project.
Love Lynne's block!
OH my goodness! they are paying you back for getting time away this weekend. that's a terrible morning. I love your lynnbobsquarepants block though. It really is a great design and your fabrics are so cheery!
ReplyDeleteWow! Quite a day. good for you for sewing some. I'm sure they were all cleaning up their messes while you sewed :) I'm glad to hear that little girls are as destructive and messy as little boys.
ReplyDeleteWow rough day! LOL!! Mine thought Cathedral Window units were napkins yesterday!! Thankfully it was between meals! And how is it that lotion and crayons are so much fun to play with on WALLS?
ReplyDeleteTake a deep breath and thank God they are cute. I do all the time!!
Your HSTs are gorgeous! I have lots of triangles left over from my supernova quilt, and I love your block -- I might have to copy this one!
ReplyDeleteHang in there with the little ones!
Tomorrow will be better, right?!
You are one strong lady to make it through that morning with grace! Sewing time is a definite must to make you feel happier! Wishing you lots more sewing time in the near future!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm so sorry to hear about your morning! You definitely deserved some sewing time today!! I love how your block turned out, it looks absolutely fantastic. I just adore it!!! Good luck with a new day tomorrow. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I think I would have proceeded to rip my hair out, I can imagine you were in need of some sewing therapy...or a stiff drink! Your block looks great though, its so fun to see traditional block designs in fun modern fabrics, it really gives things a new fun feel, can't wait to see more
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you get any sewing done at all. Love the square, glad it was easy to fix the boo-boo.
ReplyDeleteI really love the block both ways :)
ReplyDeleteI am amazed that you get anything done besides survive! You do have very creative children!
ReplyDeleteWow, you really did need some sewing therapy... that sounds very trying!!
ReplyDeleteYour block looks great! Luckily the one piece to fix is on the edge so hopefully you won't have to rip too much :)
LOL!!! That sounds a lot like the norm around here!!!! When i do find the time to sew i am more than likely too worn out from the constant pick up :o)
ReplyDeletei hope the next 15 will be easier!!!!
Oh, my gosh! One of those days to say the least! I just have one kid, but I can relate a little. The other day I took a really long shower just because it was quiet in there!
ReplyDeleteLoving your HST project! Beautiful colors.
I only have two kids (all grown up now) but I sympathize. Have you noticed that "things" seem to happen right when the phone rings? The shower curtain gets improved with some snipping with scissors. The doll house gets embellished with sparkly puff-paint from a nice handy squeeze bottle.
ReplyDeleteO! I remember those days! Good thing you have sewing therapy. That block looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThe 'distract and destroy' ploy must be a twin thing - I can agree with how they can sweep through the house like a plague of locusts!! Mine have take to working after dark!
ReplyDeleteThe Square Pants block looks gorgeous!
Im working on a similar half square triangle design and am bored of them too! sounds like you are having a trying day I think I would have cried had all that happend to me! My two year old has the most epic tantrums which last at least an hour and both my two and 5 years olds emptied the contents of their entire closet in a bid to make a tower big enough to climb up so my daughter could reach the lock on her room to prevent her brother from going in there and taking her (my) lipbalm. All that happened after Id spent forever ironing their clothes ready for our holiday..the monkeys!
ReplyDeleteKati, I cannot tell you how thrilled I am you are making this quilt. Really really thrilled and tingly and coming over all silly - you are one of the superstars and you are making my block HURRAH!!! Oooh and I love your bright citrussy fabrics
ReplyDeleteI'm telling you I cop'ed out of being a stay at home mom - because it's a hard job! You're a rockstar and if you need some adult time, let me know I'll sweep you away to get some pedicures!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! You definitely needed that sewing therapy. It's amazing how refreshing "me time" can be. Your block looks great, by the way!
ReplyDeleteYou just cracked me up. I thought it was a bad morning when the fish food got spilled all over the kitchen table. Doesn't even come close!!! Love your new block. It will make a beautiful quilt, Kati!
ReplyDeleteI know first hand how challenging staying home can be with little ones! I feel for you and I'm glad that you have sewing as therapy. I hope you get some more time for it...even a little a day can help! Your block is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh no! What a horrible, no good day! I have similar days. Know you aren't alone!
ReplyDeleteI think I need some kind of therapeutic hobby in my life to combat those kinds of tough days. I don't really have anything like that so sometimes I just feel a little crazy. Your kids do have a lot of energy. I am glad you have a good outlet and you do such a beautiful job with it all.
ReplyDeletegorgeous
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you're so frazzled but I love the fact that I'm not the only one living this way. We only have one "tiny terrorist" as we call her and I'm exhausted at the end if the day. I think with three you are like superwoman for even finding 30 minutes to sew! Love that block too!
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful fabrics in these blocks! They are so bright and cheery!
ReplyDeleteI have a love/hate relationship with HST quilts... Yours motivates me to press forward! And PRESS is an operative word with HST.
ReplyDeleteI have had to rip out all my FMQing...argh. Breath in, breath out. Set down the seam ripper. Walk away from the quilt.
BTW, LOVE your layout.
