A nice surprise after a very long day.

Look what arrived in my mailbox today, courtesy of Tammy from a content life  and Marmalade Fabrics (by the way she is having 20% for her grand opening right now).  Tammy was hosting a giveaway a week or two ago, and I won!  I'm really excited about this book and hope I find lots of good ideas in it.

It's always nice to have a happy surprise during a rough day.  I've been dealing with a sick Miss C. for a few days.  Neither of us got much sleep last night, but she had the luxury of laying around on the couch all day watching TV.  I still had to be the mom.  She was pretty much in heaven, despite being sick.  You see, we don't have a TV around our house.  We don't have room for it, we don't have cable, and we're just not big TV watchers.  We have a little 13" DVD player we bring up in crisis situations (when a kiddo is sick or when I was out of town).  It's a pretty big deal to Miss C. because it's so rare to just veg on the couch and watch Little Einstein shows or Toy Story.  She threw up Sunday morning about 6 a.m. and as soon as she finished she looked up at me and said, "I'm sick.  Can you bring the TV up from the basement so I can watch?" I guess she has to take every opportunity she can get.

  2. I love this book! I've got a "kitchen window" cut and ready to piece, and I'd love to try a "birdbath" or "rain or shine" too. How fun that you won it in a giveaway!

  3. Sorry about Miss. C. :( But I think that's pretty cute that she gets that privilege when she is sick. :) HUGS!

  4. You poor thing. I am always a mess and worrying when the kids are sick. I hope tummies are feeling better soon.

We didn't have a TV until yesterday, when we got a hand-me-down from a friend! Yay for free :)

  6. Congrats on the prize! I'm jealous ;). I love the story about your daughter (other than the sick part). That's awesome that TV plays such a small role in your lives.

  8. Love it. For the first 7.75 years of our marriage (now 8.5) all we had was a 13" tv/vcr combo that we put on a little printer cart and kept shoved in the closet! About 6 months ago a friend gave us their 32" tv that the replaced with a fancy lcd tv. It sits in the living room but it's not hooked up to cable or a digital converter box thingy. So we are limited to DVD's only and I love it. I love how little TV we have watched and I love having control over every thing that comes through the TV because I know that anythign that shows up on that screen was a conscious choice. People think we're weird but so what! They're actually eventually jealous of all we get done and how many fun things we get to accomplish.

  9. Please bring the book to the next guild meeting. I've been wanting to take a look at it.

I'm with you on the TV thing. While we have one, it's in the basement and we mostly just watch movies. Plus I get enough screen time with the Internet. So I'm by no means deprived.
